How Did 50,000 British Troops Control India—a Land of 200 Million People?
How to watch
Summary
David Livingstone said Britain should colonise and rule the world with the 3 C’s: Commercialise, Civilitise, Christianise. In India, Britain started with trade via the East India Company. Colonisation later expanded by combining military strength and technology, Indian soldiers, political maneuvering, and the classical divide-and-rule strategy to control a vast and diverse land. Was it a remarkable achievement or a modern example of classical, ancient Roman conquest? Or both?
