Summary

Jews have lived in Morocco for over 2000 years experiencing periods of both acceptance and instability, creating a distinctive culture in cities and countryside alike. Among characteristics of Marrakech culture are the pilgrimages (hillulot) to the graves of ‘saints ’ (saddikim), events still celebrated with fervour today and the importance of Jews as skilled craftsmen and traders, playing vital roles in the nation’s economy.
