How to watch

This lecture starts on 16 October at 5:00pm (UK).

Summary

The 1860s and 1870s saw two new large nation states, Italy and Germany, take to the European stage. Both were established through wars, and whilst one, Germany, became over the last three decades of the 19th century continental Europe’s most powerful country, Italy struggled to turn the politically united nation into an economic, social, and political success. Join us on this in-depth look at the changing fortunes of these storied nations.
