The Voyage of the St. Louis, Part 1

Tuesday 16.01.2024

Summary

Adolf Hitler came to power promising a ‘Judenrein Reich’. What followed was the political, social and economic exclusion of the Jews from German society. This was accompanied by robbery and terror, designed to make Jews leave. Tragically, it was increasingly difficult for them to find a place of refuge. One of the most poignant stories is that of the ship St. Louis which left Hamburg in May 1939. This two-session presentation will highlight the story of those refugees.
